Petite, yes. Quiet? Absolutely not.

This round sunstone moonstone cabochon is only about half an inch across, but there is a ridiculous amount happening inside it. Fine lines run through the warm, peachy sunstone and flash into streaks of rainbow color when they catch the light. Then turn it slightly and a soft moonstone glow appears along the side.

Two completely different kinds of light in one tiny stone.

I gave the setting an almost old-fashioned locket feel, with a large hand-fabricated semicircle of silver rising above the stone. The prongs follow the same directional pattern as the Meteor Shower bracelet—two, one, two, one—echoing the lines running through the stone rather than fighting against them.

It hangs from a delicate sterling silver station chain, keeping the whole necklace light and easy while letting that strange little universe of a stone be the focus.

The Story

This is the tiny version of looking up and realizing the sky is doing way more than you thought.

At first you see the warm sunstone. Then the lines. Then one catches the light and suddenly there's a streak of electric rainbow shooting straight across it.

And just when you think you've figured the stone out, that moonstone glow appears at the edge.

I wanted the silver to follow what was already happening inside the stone. The directional prongs pick up those meteor-like lines, while the big rounded loop above it gives the whole thing this sweet little locket feeling—as though you're carrying around a tiny piece of sky.
