This natural iolite sunstone has that incredible dual personality that made me want to build this collection in the first place. At first glance, it's a rich, dusky iolite—almost like the sky slipping into night. Then you move it, and there they are: tiny pink sunstone sparkles firing through the darker stone.

And the best part is that the fire isn't confined to one perfect viewing angle. Turn it, wear it, let it move against you—you can catch those flashes from all around.

I set the stone in my sterling silver Petal setting, with the silver sweeping up and around it while leaving plenty of the gemstone visible. It's delicate without being tiny, and simple enough that the stone gets to do all the interesting work.

The Story

This collection is about three ways of looking at the sky—and this piece feels like that moment when you can't quite decide whether you're looking at the end of the day or the beginning of the night.

The iolite gives you the deep blue and violet of a darkening sky.

The sunstone gives you those last impossible little sparks of pink light.
