This Australian boulder opal is all about contrast. Rich earth tones give way to dreamy lavenders, soft whites, smoky blues, and flashes of iridescent color that seem to shift every time the ring catches the light. The result feels less like a gemstone and more like a tiny landscape painted by nature.

The large pear-shaped opal is secured with eight hand-formed prongs and supported by a comfortable open split shank that balances the substantial stone beautifully. Despite its size, the ring wears comfortably and feels remarkably secure on the hand.

The Story

Australian boulder opal is unlike any other gemstone.

Instead of separating the precious opal from its host rock, nature leaves them together, creating dramatic landscapes where brilliant color emerges from ancient ironstone. Every piece tells a completely different story.

What drew me to this particular stone was its sense of depth. Soft lavender clouds drift across warm bronze earth while flashes of blue and white seem to appear from nowhere as the light changes. It's bold enough to make a statement, yet the colors remain surprisingly soft and wearable.

The setting is intentionally clean and sculptural. A hand-fabricated split shank supports the large stone while allowing it to remain the undeniable focal point.
